Treatment of Gum Disease in Suwanee GA

Gentle and effective treatment for gum disease

Top Suwanee dentist Robert Finkel has over 33 years of experience diagnosing and treating mild to intermediate gum disease. When you come to our beautiful new office for gum treatment, you will receive thorough treatment to rapidly and gently eliminate most forms of gum disease. This will help you preserve your oral health and prevent tooth loss.

Gum disease affects more than just your gums

Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, can adversely affect your overall health. Many patients don’t even realize they have gum disease until the damage is irreversible. Gum disease can increase your risk for cardiovascular disease, low birth weight or preterm babies, and can contribute to blood sugar control problems for diabetics. Additionally, gum disease causes bleeding, swollen gums and tooth loss.

We can handle most cases of gum disease in our office using deep cleaning (also known as "scaling and root planing"), although more advanced cases may need to be referred to a specialist.

What causes gum disease?

Why do you get gum diseasePoor oral hygiene, irregular professional dental cleanings, smoking or chewing tobacco, certain medications, defective fillings, crooked teeth and systemic diseases are contributing factors to gum disease.
Some warning signs of gum disease are:

  • Gums that bleed during brushing

  • Gums that have pulled away from the teeth

  • Persistent bad breath or bad taste in the mouth

  • Permanent teeth that are loose or separating

  • Any change in the way your teeth fit together when you bite

A healthy lifestyle, regular brushing and flossing and routine checkups at the dentist are the best way to keep your gums healthy and avoid gum disease. Deep cleaning may also be recommended.

If you suspect that you have gum disease or if you have any of the symptoms above, schedule an appointment with Dr. Finkel right away.

Periodontal (Gum) Plastic Surgery

A beautiful smile includes not just the teeth, but also the lips and gums that frame your teeth. Too little gum (recession) or too much gum (a "gummy smile") can ruin the framing and the esthetics of your teeth and smile.

If the gum has been lost around a tooth or teeth, we can graft back gum tissue to cover exposed roots, strengthen the gums and decrease root sensitivity.

If you show too much gum, we can reshape the gums with a simple surface procedure (gingivectomy) or, when necessary, use an easy procedure to reshape the surface tissue and underlying supportive tissue.

Our goal is your beautiful smile and strong, healthy gums for a great overall dental picture.

"Dr. Finkel has been my dentist since I was six years old. The most important thing I feel he has done for me was putting sealants on my teeth to protect my teeth from cavities.

"He has become like a family to me as has his entire staff."
